Viking, a leader in river and ocean cruising, has announced an exciting expansion of its itineraries with three new voyages through China set for 2024. These unique journeys offer travelers an unparalleled opportunity to explore the rich tapestry of Chinese culture, history, and natural beauty.

Spanning 10 to 20 days, these itineraries cover China’s most iconic cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. What sets these voyages apart is their inclusion of domestic sailings along China’s coast, showcasing destinations and ports exclusive to Viking—offering international visitors experiences previously unavailable.

The voyages are scheduled between September and November 2024 and are designed to engage and enlighten. Guests will enjoy educational lectures, insights from destination experts, and an immersion into Chinese cuisine.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking, emphasizes the uniqueness of these trips: “For over 15 years, our Yangtze River voyages were among our most popular. We’re proud

to continue this legacy by being the first to operate domestic sailings in China for international travelers.” He highlights the rich cultural experiences that await guests, including walking on the Great Wall, visiting the Terra Cotta Warriors, and engaging with local communities.

The three itineraries are:

  1. Wonders of China (20 days; Beijing roundtrip): This extensive cruisetour offers a deep dive into China’s main attractions. Highlights include meeting a Tibetan family, exploring the Great Wall, and visiting the Terra Cotta Warriors. Unique coastal experiences include Dongtou’s scenic beauty and exploring Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  2. Classic China & the Coast (15 days; Beijing, Xian – Hong Kong): Merging the 10-day China Discovery voyage with additional experiences, this journey takes guests through historical landmarks like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City. The coastal sail provides a rich diversity in language, culture, and cuisine.
  3. China Discovery (10 days; Shanghai – Hong Kong): This shorter itinerary focuses on China’s coastal gems, including the Buddhist shrines of Zhoushan and the cliffs of Dongtou. Guests can also explore the European-influenced Gulangyu Island and enjoy Cantonese cuisine in Shenzhen.

Viking’s vessel for these voyages offers a more intimate experience, accommodating fewer than 1,000 guests, ensuring ample space and accessibility.

Bookings for these extraordinary China voyages are now open, inviting travelers to embark on a journey that blends ancient wonders with modern marvels.
