The Best Airline & Airport On-Time Performance: North America

Unlike their counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region, North American airlines and airports experienced some decline in performance in March. The region also had a 33% increase in flight cancellations. Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, and SkyWest Airlines were responsible for a significant number of flight cancellations.

For the third consecutive month in 2024, Delta Air Lines (DL) is the leader in the North American region. This month’s performance score of 85.54% was however a near 4-point decline over last month’s OTP of 89.27%.

  • United Airlines (UA) followed Delta in second place with an OTP of 82.82%. Similarly, this was also a decrease of 2-points in performance over February.
  • Alaska Airlines (AS) finished the month with an OTP of 78.79% and in third place. This was a 3-point decrease compared to their OTP of 81.91% in February.
  • With a six-point decrease in performance, American Airlines (AA) dropped to fourth place this month with an OTP of 78.49%.
  • American was followed by Southwest Airlines (WN) in fifth place with an OTP of 75.59%, which was a 6-point decrease over last month’s OTP of 81.88%.

Airport On-Time Performance

Major airports in the region also experienced significant declines in on-time performance. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), the primary hub for American Airlines saw a massive 12-point decline in OTP and finished the quarter with an OTP of 70.65%.

  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) saw a near 8-point decrease in OTP and finished the month with 77.83%. Miami International Airport (MIA) also saw an 8-point decrease (78.19%) and recorded an OTP of 70.16%.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) finished the month with an OTP of 78.81%, a 4-point decrease compared to 83.12% from last month.
  • O’Hare International Airport (ORD) ended the month with an OTP of 83.17%, a 4-point decrease compared to 87.50% from February.
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) concluded the month with an OTP of 84.64%, which was a 3-point decrease over last month’s performance of 88.01%.
