The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority opened its long-awaited Silver Line Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport in Virginia. Plans for the line date back to 1962, but funding and legal disputes delayed construction until 2014, after which cost overruns and further delays pushed the project well past its originally expected opening in 2018.
