Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed concern over the technical challenges faced by its competitor Boeing, emphasizing that such problems negatively impact the reputation of the aerospace industry as a whole. Speaking at the “Europe 2024” conference in Berlin, Faury stressed the paramount importance of quality and safety within the sector, indicating that difficulties encountered by any major player ultimately reflect poorly on the entire field.

The comments came in the wake of recent incidents involving Boeing aircraft, including a door plug blowout on a 737-9 jet during an Alaska Airlines flight in January. Additionally, this month saw Boeing advising airlines operating its 787 Dreamliners to inspect flight deck switches following an incident where a LATAM Airlines 787 experienced a sudden drop, injuring over 50 passengers.

Echoing Faury’s sentiments, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who also attended the Berlin conference, pointed out that Airbus is currently faring better than Boeing. Le Maire’s remarks underscore a broader concern within the aerospace community about the impact of Boeing’s technical issues on the industry’s image and the critical need for unwavering standards of quality and safety across all manufacturers.
